I was doing some searches today on the internet and I ran across the quote on Pintrest:

" Skill in Photography is Gained by Practice, Not by Purchase "

I have to keep myself in check and remind myself I have to Master the equipment I own now, and Maybe in the Future I can upgrade.

Oh, you can gain skill by purchase, it's just that most folks make the WRONG purchase, if that's what they're striving for. Try going old. Or old school. I picked up a D100 last year for next to nothing and made some great images with it. Pick up a Nikon EM and a series E 50mm lens and you'll learn more than from buying a D750 - and hey, it's "full frame" too! :)

A friend of mine had a string of Canon Powershots and took amazing landscapes with them...just absolutely amazing pictures. I tried to convince her to buy a DSLR years ago. She finally bought a D7000 the other day, and I'm eager to see what she does with it. (I recommended Nikonites, but I doubt she'll sign up for an account here.)

I can't fully embrace that sentiment. I always say if it wasn't for being able to shoot sports, I probably wouldn't bother owning a camera. The other appeal for me is the technology. If camera companies stopped innovating and offering new products, I'd probably go find some other pursuit to follow. I'm a simple guy, I like sports, and I like tech. the rest? Meh...

I told someone the other day "I like toys" the more high tech the better. BUT that being said I do believe that you can make great images with your iPhone if you understand its limitations and work within them. Same goes for the most basic P&S to the most sophisticated DSLR. I have seen photos coming from this forum shot with a Coolpix that consistently look better than some people who are shooting the high end FX Nikons.

I finally got satisfied with a camera (D7100) and the lenses I have so I have moved into Drone photography to get my tech fix.

Nice quote, I believe it. I haven't had much time to play around with my dslr but I've been slowly gaining more knowledge and some practice. That being said, I have a D3000 and am looking to upgrade to something with more features
