Reviewing pictures while tethered

I'm new to shooting tethered and I want to know if it's possible to still look at pictures on my LCD while shooting tethered. I see people doing it on tutorials all the time. Although I'm tethered I still want to be able to chimp. Lol

Not sure why you would want to look at such a tiny image on the camera when you can see a much larger one on the laptop ?

Unless of course you are using a phone, etc. to tether to.

Short answer is yes, the preview will be on the camera for as long as you have it set for...

What's the setting then? When I hit the preview button it doesn't respond and nothing ever shows up. I'm just being picky I guess. I just want to shoot tethered and have the option to use my monitor and my LCD like I see pro's doing all the time.

As Don said, if you are shooting tethered to a laptop use that to review the pictures. You can tell a lot more from that then you can from the LCD. Rereading your post I also don't understand why you would be using the preview button. Or do you mean the playback button? I shoot tethered sometimes and if I remember right the camera has to be in live view mode anyway so what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Yes I meant playback. My goal is to be able to have the best of both worlds. Often my laptop is behind me and I don't want to have to go to it when it would be faster to just look in my camera while on the ground. I tend to chimp a lot and I'm trying to see if it's possible with a Nikon. I have seen cannon users do it before.

Sorry, I don't shoot tethered that way. If I shoot tethered I control everything from the laptop so I am setting in front of it when I shoot. Not sure how you are doing it if the laptop is behind you.

As to the setting, it is the "monitor off display". Read your manual like the pro's do :)

When you are tethered, the last image taken will be displayed on the camera for as long as you have it set for or until you take another shot.

But, if you want to go back and review previous shots you need to do that through the tether program/laptop which has control over the camera.

Hmmm. It never shows me the last image ever, when I'm tethered. Oh well thanks I will read the manual again and see if maybe I'm overlooking something.

Hmmm, whenever I've shot tethered there is no option to store the image on the card on the camera, so I can't see how you would be able to preview it on the LCD since there's no jpeg preview stored to the card. I don't believe you can do it - at least not with a D600 or D800.

I use a mac. That sucks. It only works for PC. Thank you very much for trying though. I really appreciate it.

I use Lightroom4 tethered to a D3s. The only preview I can look at is via the laptop. Can't use the rear display. Live view is disabled which I don't care because it's the laptop I'm looking at anyway. And no I can't overide these settings it's just the way it is.
