Respect for copyright

A recent post here contained an article from another source and there was no attribution for that source or the author of the article. There have been discussions here concerning the issue of posting another's work as one's own. While this was not the case in the post I'm referring to (claiming another's work as one's own), the lack of attribution, to me, shows at least an ignorance of how to properly share another's work.

In most cases, I would think it best to simply provide a link to the site where it was found, without re-posting the entire article. "Hey, check out this article I found on landscape lighting..."

If one feels the article must be re-posted locally, it should contain the entire piece, including attribution, as well as a link to the site where it was found.

We pride ourselves on our efforts in photography. We should respect nothing less for other artists.

I have no problem with posting partial articles, provided a link is provided to the full piece and acknowledgement of the author is given. That said, there are some photographers who send out daily/weekly/monthly email newsletters and the content isn't always available online, and in these cases it is best to acknowledge the source and quote the email fully only after requesting and obtaining permission from the author to share content on internet forums (i.e. add a "posted with the permission of the author" to the post).

On other forums I visit the rule is, "link it"; all the time, every time. Copy/Pasta is simply not allowed since it robs the author of (potentially valuable) web-traffic. The policy also serves to eliminate any possible error of attribution.
