Regarding the Uploader & Text Box

I have noticed a few problems with the image uploader & the text entry box.

a) If i try advance editing a post, all the formatting of the post is lost.
The text appears continuous with pictures included like one long sentence.

b) Does the server resize uploaded images or strip them further?
I export all my files from LR at a size of 2mb as that is the max allowed on the forums & also to maintain the quality for HDR photos.
But all the images once uploaded are around 70kb.. and the there is a definite loss in image quality.
Even images uploaded to the gallery are treated the same way

c) The flash image uploader does not work at most times.
It goes to a 'no image to process page'

d) This may be some problem at my end, but from the past couple of months all notification emails land in junk.
even though i 'this is not junk' them from the junk folder, the following emails go back there

Not really complaining, just notifying the powers that be :p

i have found that i cannot edit a post till i go to another post. I can then return and i can edit my post. I had the problem with email notification going to junk but somehow it fixed itself.

Here are some comparison pics to show that images uploaded are for sure facing a quality loss along with size reduction.
This is the image i posted in my daily thread a couple of days back:

(Linking here from gallery)
dsc_wlp-18.jpg

And here is the image which was originally uploaded:

CLICK HERE FOR PIC ON IMAGESHACK

Details of the Image:
Original image size - 1.89MB
Uploaded size (can be verified in my gallery as well) - 75.8KB

Thats a whopping difference & i think 70kb is too low for an image to maintain its quality.
250-400KB seems about right for a good compromise between size & quality.

However when the upload limit is set to 2MB, i do not understand why it is being further compressed

Am i the only one facing this issue??

a)This is an annoying bug with the software. For the meantime switch the editor to source mode (the A/A in the upper left) before going to the advanced editor

b) images are compressed on upload and a thumbnail version is created. This is done so people do not have to download several mb of images per page. There's really no reason to have a 2mb file displayed inline on a webpage. If you would like to link to a larger version of the image, that's fine too, for example:
dscwlp18.jpg

c)The flash uploader for the gallery is also buggy and looks like it's only working in Chrome at the moment. I can't figure out why it does this, and unfortunately the people that make the software have pretty much stopped working on it. For now, use the basic uploader.

d)depends entirely on the email server. If enough people report the forums email as spam then it will think that all the e-mail is spam. All you can do is mark it as not spam.

I have found that the file uploader works inconsistently. It does not matter which browser or operating system I am using: firefox or safari with OS X 10.8.3, or Firefox on Ubuntu Linux 12.04. Sometimes, the only way I can upload files is to select "basic uploader."

This is not a complaint, just an observation.

Thanks Jdeg.. Appreciate you taking a look into this.

I have noticed at times that while uploading HDRs, there seems to be some loss for average sized uploads (say at 300kb).
Personally i do not like uploading files to another image sharing server.. i feel it safer if it's here for some reason...
do you or anyone have any suggestions on which site to use? i just created this imageshack account to see if there is a difference.

John, i understand there is definitely no need for all 2mb files to be uploaded to threads, but how about in the gallery?
i think originally gallery had a 4mb (or 6mb limit) and linking through to them displayed the photos at the original file size (like linking to a third party website).
But now even gallery images get reduced to 70kb or so.. is the gallery also designed to work the way of thread uploads or is it a bug?

Thanks again
