Several months ago I stopped to take a look at a gator that was near the edge of the water and a girl approximately 15 or 16 years old said that she had just come from the waters edge and was talking to the alligator and he was very friendly and wouldn't harm anyone. I told her that several months earlier I had taken a picture of that gator in the same place jumping out of the water with his mouth wide open. She said that she had been down there a few minutes before talking to him and he was very friendly. I told her she was NUTS and to not do that again. I told her that their striking speed was twice s fast as a rattlesnake but she still insisted he was friendly. I told her I was leaving because I didn't want to be a witness to her being eaten. I went and reported this to the ranger and she said there were three boys daring each other to run down and touch his tail a few weeks earlier. You just have to wonder if some people can really be that stupid. I know Paul, Jimmy and Trey from the Gator Boys from TV and sometimes I think they make it look too easy to get close to a alligator even though the say NOT to try this at home.
