You know, I have been on a lot of forums over the years. Motorcycles, Cars, Politics, Religion, and probably more that are not worth mentioning. But one thing that took me a while to understand is that you cannot change someone's mind arguing your point on a forum. (Now I know I take a risk in saying this and someone will disagree, but I save your keystrokes cause I will not argue)...

I know I have never been convinced, unless someone actually pointed out an error in my sentence, and no one has admitted to me that my argument was so persuasive that they had changed theirs.

I still get fired up on occasion... I have written some scathing responses to very ignorant people... but before I hit the "post" button I try to to consider my motives... I have found the delete button, and the 30 second pause, to be my best friend. Now if I could just learn not to be drawn in to the vortex of negative energy that comes from those contests...

I feel better now... thanks for listening

I've learned to use the "Ignore User" selection to keep my enjoyment up on forums. I don't use it very much, but I do use it. Sometimes, I'll give someone a second chance, but usually, they've remained the same and I end up ignoring them again, or they've moved on or been banned. Noting here, or on any other forum is worth getting upset over. I also try not to upset other users on forums, either; thats not why I'm here.

I've learned who is here to listen when they have a question and who is here to look for someone to affirm what they think even when asking as a question. It is also obvious over time to know who knows what they are talking about. Therefore I don't waste my time arguing with those that are wrong. Conversely, if I ask a question I ask it to hear what they have to say, but I know who I can have an intellectual discussion with to hash something out if we disagree or my understanding is different. I guess it's kind of like family members. You know who to spend you time with and who to just be polite to... if you can.
