Questions for those new in the biz who have actually gotten work

Mike, it may just be the time of year. Do you have a large following of just your artistic photography already? That helps... when I posted my 3 free sessions offer, I already had about 85 likes on my page, and a lot of those folks shared the offer as well.

Now, with all the cold here in Oklahoma, nobody is thinking about my outdoor photo sessions at all. IMAGINE THAT! At least you don't have to battle that as much in Flordia! I'm sure when the 50's and 60's start coming back, I'll get some business again, but until then... always shooting!

My Facebook page is new so I don't have a lot of followers at all yet. Mostly local friends and some family. I wasn't interested in social media before now so I just set it up. I posted offering the sessions for February because that will be when we start to get a little warmer after winter is over. I just would like to get some people photos onto my Zenfolio page before spring. And I need to practice.

Rack cards for flower shops, beauty shops and formal rentals. Web sight is a must to show your work. Dvd's of your work. Dance studios, sports teams kids, gymnastics and the list goes on.

I've just emailed some photos of the area (including of today's storm at sea) to my local newspaper to see if they'll print them. I've pointed them to my Flickr page so they can see the sort of local pictures I have available if they are interested. We'll see ...

They've acknowledged receipt and passed it up the editorial line. We were pretty badly hit by storms overnight, with many homes to be without electricity over Christmas, train services crippled (so what's new?), Gatwick's north terminal without power, severe flooding, trees blocking roads, etc. so I imagine the papers won't be short of material. We'll see. We're fine, by the way.

Ah! Sorry, I might have hijacked it slightly but my previous post was that I'd sent some photos in on spec and now had one used straight away. An living example of market exposure for the OP who is looking to get known in their community. Happy to move/delete but I thought it was on-topic.
