A: Having the original negative for the image!!!!!!!

Yep! In my project to digitize all my old family photos, I've come across about 1,000 original negatives tucked away in several old photofinishing envelopes! And I was starting to get a sense of déjà vu when I started in on the negatives.

So I went back to my print scans, and lo and behold!: There's the print for the negative!

I have a ton of projector slides of my family. It is some seriously neat stuff to go through. Just hearing the projector cycle through them brings back memories...

I've got all MY slides scanned in. I need to finish my Grandmothers (the one in the photos) as well as my dad's.

I have the same for my wife's family. Over 500 slides and around 1000 pictures dating back to the early 1900's. Before my father in-law passed i went and got a bulb for his projector. Talk about expensive.I am still deciding how to transform the slides and pics to a dvd for each of her siblings.

I started scanning the old family photos that my mom had at Thanksgiving. Since she died I have started cleaning out her home and have found thousands of photos. My sister and I plan to go through them in the next few weeks and scan the important ones (people we know) and throw away the rest. My wife started interviewing my mom last summer and recording the conversations. She has been transcribing them as time permits. I am going to put the stories and photos in a book to give to the grand kids and my sister. Hopefully I will have it ready by next Christmas.

I've recognized about 10 - 12 negatives I recall seeing as prints. And I'm sure I'll find others as I digitize more negs, and more once I start actually looking at the digital files.

So now, (

sigh!) I need to figure out how to cross-reference them to each other. I'm far too entrenched in a catalog method for both to somehow magically marry up the prints with the negs.

I think I'll just add a notation to the print (Catalog no. C-99), saying "Negative is at Neg. A-08" and vice-versa.

I was round at my Granddad's a few weeks back and we were going through photos etc. (his wife recently died).

We managed to dig out their wedding video from 1951!

Amazing how vastly technology has advanced in such a relatively short space of time.
