Wagner Manufacturing Co., Sidney, OH I live in one of the most boring places on earth, and this is what remains of my hometown's claim to fame. Most people have heard of "Wagner Ware," which remains highly collectible cast iron cookware to this day. They were also famous for "Magnalite," an aluminum alloy cookware. The factory opened in the 1890's and was popular through the 1950's until the next generation of Wagners began divesting their interest in the company. Capitalism sealed its fate as ownership and trade names shifted hands several times until there was nothing left. By 1999, the factory closed its doors and was left to decay. In 2015, several complaints were logged with the EPA regarding contamination at the site and the building was falling in on itself. Awareness was raised and there were questions of who actually owned the site and who was going to pay to clean it up. In 2023, without much fanfare, the site was demolished. This is all that remains: dirt and a chain link fence.
