Day 293, 2013 - Bee Heading out to the studio to shoot a quick educational video experiment when I see this small honey bee crawling around on the ground early this morning. Figuring the poor little guy is dying, and unable to fly, it should give me the chance to get some great up close pictures as he can't get away. So I scoop him up into a cup and set him to the side in the studio. I get my camera, set up an outside pedestal with a piece of white photo paper. I figured the white paper would help to illuminate the underside of the bee and minimize harsh shadows and the slightly muted direct sunlight (wispy clouds) would help fire up the color of the bees hair. So there I am, camera in hand, bee on the paper in the sun, I snap four pictures getting it all dialed in the way I want it and the little bugger flew away. As I stood there cursing him I realized he wasn't dying; he was too cold to fly.
