The point you pick is just a starting point in dynamic mode. If the picture is still in camera, you can see what focus point was used. Otherwise Nikon viewnx2 should show you the point. If the point used falls on the center player, things may have just happened too fast. So see if you can verify what point point was used for this shot. It may have jumped to a back player for some reason. In that case, single point would probably work better for you. I've had auto area work for me.
