Day 52 - BONUS!!! (or PART 2!) - D U C K!!! FINALLY settled down enough at work that I was able to take one of my craved lunchtime photo jaunts. I *KNEW* there would be different types of ducks at one of the larger park ponds I like to visit, but thought they might all be gone by the time I got to make my return... quite a few were still around, though. Lucky me!! 1st, of course, to keep the locals happy, I took a shot of the ever hungry and fearless drake mallard, and the even MORE fearless resident goose (who didn't care at all that I was there to shoot ducks instead). The rest of these shots were a little tougher, as the "out-of-towners" are a bit more skittish around strangers. Heavily cropped to draw them in. First, the ducks that stayed the farthest away from me, the tiny, short billed Pied-bills. Then, because I'd never seen these guys before, and I fell in love with their coloring (especially the bills), several pics of the Ring-necks. And finally, often confused with mallard because of the similar coloring, the Northern Shovelers. I rather thought that this black headed shoveler might actually be a different variety, but per the internet, it appears he is just a more rarely seen version of the Northern. He was hanging out all by himself, and sure didn't want to give me a good angle.
