I'm normally not a "roster shot" railfan, but this one was worth the film. It was taken 11/02/1987 in Montgomery, AL and WM 3798 was the very last locomotive to survive in Western Maryland Rwy. paint. The WM was a fine road, but found itself engulfed by CSX lines and was merged and largely removed. You can ride a portion of its former mainline west from Cumberland, MD on the excellent Western Maryland Scenic Rwy. Soon after the shot, CSX renumbered it to 6573 and sold it after a mechanical failure. Amazingly, she was rebuilt and I think still serves on the Indiana Southern Railroad as their 4041. This locomotive was delivered in June 1971. If only our vehicles lasted this long, eh? :) [Nikon N2020, 50mm Lens, Kodachrome 64]
