Well I thought I was about to post a first on here but it seems I'm about 11 days to late. Photos of a European Red Squirrel Sciurus vulgaris taken in Northumberland England. My job is to protect these little critters through eradicating as many grey squirrels as possible in the area. Unfortunately the American Grey Squirrel was released in the UK in the 19th Century and since then it has been wiping out our native species through competition and disease. The grey squirrel carries squirrel pox virus, which doesn't effect it but is extremely deadly and highly contagious to reds. As a result the only way to conserve our native species is to keep grey squirrels away from their populations. It is yet another unfortunate problem caused by man. Unfortunately this shot is not that great as the ISO was high and shooting in Aperture priority, the camera metered for the bright sky so the squirrel was underexposed. I was also shooting in JPEG so this was the best I could do to bring it back.
