I really like my gimbal head for birds and wildlife, bit it's not much good for macro or landscapes. I wasn't a big fan of the head on my old Bogen (Manfrotto) tripod, and really wanted something with an arca swiss style plate. I had a little talk with Santa a little while back and low and behold, one was under the tree with my name on it this morning. It seems well made, smooth and has a rating of 35 lbs. It much easier to clean the sand out of the leg segments, and if it gets damaged, no big deal. Only time will tell whether I will like a ball head or not.</blockquote>
