I just could not HELP MYSELF. I walked into the local camera store two days ago and on the used camera/lens shelf sat a time machine to my beginnings with Nikon. A Nikon FTn and 50mm f/2 Nikkor H. I picked it up, fondled it a bit and was immediately transported back to 1974. At the time I managed to overcome temptation but I could not get it out of my head. I called them this morning and asked them how much they wanted for it and they said $169.00. I knew I could get them down below that so I went in, F2 in hand to check the shutter speeds and meter. I honestly did not expect the meter to work, because after this much time less than 10% of them do. The shutter curtains were perfect. The shutter speeds from 1 sec to 1/60th (the fastest you can really compare by ear) were DEAD ON with the F2. We put batteries in the finder and I WILL BE DAMNED, the meter works! I told the guy I would give him $135.00 to drive it off the lot and he said SOLD! Granted it is not my original FTn, which was a 1969, but this is a 1970, close enough for government work. The 50mm f/2 focuses as smoothly as butter and the aperture ring is very crisp. No oil on the blades either. I have a roll of TX just itching to be shot.........I think this afternoon is as good as any!!!!!
