All things considered, the camera breaks down into fewer subassemblies than you might have guessed. But the most complex parts are in subassemblies that you can see here. The shutter and mirror system is pretty fearsome in its complexity. I suspect I will have to transfer these systems over to the new part, but they should come out as a modular unit. I hope! Is this difficult? Not really. But it requires patience and observation and a gentle touch. Nothing comes apart with force. If there's resistance, look for a hidden screw or maybe some adhesive tape. Brute force is NEVER the answer to camera disassembly or assembly. I'm hoping to get the replacement mirror box in maybe a week. Interesting finding: The focusing screen at the top of the mirror box is just held in place with a wire clip. If yours is really dirty, it is easy to remove, but cleaning it is theoretically not possible. I think it is. I would use a jeweler's ultrasonic cleaner and some Dawn dishwashing soap, and gloves to handle the part. That should completely clean it and leave no residue.
