I've got a few books. Two for the camera itself; Nikon D5300 for Dummies and David Busch's Nikon D5300 Guide to Digital SLR Photography. I'm still reading the Dummies book, but will start David's next. I also got Scott Kelby's Digital Photography set of books for generalized digital photography info, as well as a book on Mastering Apple Aperture for the digital editing side of things. Books are good, but I think I'll also benefit from some hands on time where I can ask questions without just doing the trial and error part of shooting. I'm doing that too, just looking for multiple avenues for learning.
