Apparently when I tried to increase my exposure with the +/- button at some point, I didn't have the button pressed in enough. So instead of raising my exposure, rotating the rear wheel simply increased my shutter speed. And that raised my ISO which was capped at 5,000. It's something I will watch from now on.
