I came across this contraption in a large garden centre/plant nursery. It was suggested that it may have been an oven for heat-sterilising small quantities of soil or potting material but other than that I have no idea.
Marilynne, this is just brilliant and thank you so much for posting it. As an ex military man I'm a bit shocked that I never recognised it as a field kitchen and I never noticed the MOD crows-foot symbol either.
