Although spiders are arachnids and not insects and have 8 legs instead of 6, they also have two pedipalps near their mouths which they use to hold prey so it looks like they have 10. We had a rosy hair tarantula for about 7 years before she finally died. She was very docile, in spite of her ominous apparance and quarter inch long fangs. The only creatures who need fear her were the dozen or so crickets we fed her each week.
