If I understand what I've been reading, "chromatic aberration" is one of the reasons for the lack of color quality we expect to see in some pictures. This factor can be caused by the quality of the glass used in lenses. The quality of glass is one of the reasons why some lenses are so much more expensive.
To quote only part of an article I am reading, "When different colors of light propagate at different speeds in a medium, their fractive index is wavelength dependent. This phenomenon is known asdispersion."
I know most of us aren't so concerned with this but I thought it was some interesting information and it make it a little easier to understand what is controlling the colors that we see compared to what goes through the lenses of our camera.
