Photoshop question

When I double click on a .JPG file it will not open by Photoshop. It wants to use viewer.exe. I went as far as trashing viewer.exe. I have tried to change the View-->Folder-->options-->File Type. And I get a message: The extension '.JPG' is already in use by file type 'ViewerFrameClass'. Choose another extension. I also cannot find in the file types ViewerFrameClass. I have Photoshop version 4.0. HELP! I have tried everything I can think of!

That doesn't work for Photoshop CC...at least not here in the US. When Adobe came out with a new version of PCC, something got messed up and the ability to use PCC to open jpegs was gone. I posted about it a while ago and found online comments that it is a widespread problem.

It works for me. I can pick any default I want. Photoshop or Lightroom or even Viewer. I change it quite often depending on which computer I am using and what I am doing at the time

The latest update of PCC, Don? You can right click a jpeg and choose to have it open with PCC?

I just went and checked on it just for you and yes. Found a .JPG file on my desktop, right clicked on it and chose the Open With option and picked Adobe Photoshop CC 2015

Works like a charm. I have never had a problem with that option. I did not see the option there to make it the default but I am pretty sure there is a place to do that. My default is normally Lightroom and it will open up and allow me to import it

Interesting. When PCC first came out, I could right click a jpeg and open it with PCC. Once Adobe updated PCC, it no longer worked that way. Even now, I am not able to go in and set PCC to open jpegs as the default program. It just won't take it. As I said earlier, while searching online for a solution, I found others who had this same problem. Oh well. Glad it works for some people. Thanks for the info!

Ok, I just went and set Photoshop CC 2015 (Latest version) to be the default program to open both .jpg and .jpeg files.

i am using a PC running Windows 10. I went to Cortana (ask me anything) and set set default program based on file type. Scrolled down to Jpg and picked Photoshop. Basically the same as always for a windows setup.

-Here's a good trick that's works in many cases. You'll be using Fireworks to open, and re-save the Photoshop file. This will fix most corruptions.
-Open the corrupt Photoshop file in Fireworks.
Use Fireworks to save it as a .psd Photoshop file. (Important: Do not save it as a Fireworks file or another extension, because Photoshop may not recognize the layers, or you could lose data.)
-Remember to give your file a different name when saving, so you won't overwrite your original. (A good idea would be to create a backup of your original before trying this procedure.)
-Open your newly created file in Photoshop.

Remember that many effects will not show in Fireworks, but should show up in the Photoshop layers.

I would like to choose the steps below to get back corrupted .psd file or another variant for severe .psd corruption and as additional service there are threads where you can get more variants of solution
