Photographer robbed of his life's work

So much of our lives are on computers these days I hope you're all considering off site back ups.

Back ups are crucial, but if you're place burns down or someone steals them, they were pointless. Every month or two I rotate one of my back up drives through a safe deposit box at my bank.

That stinks for him. This is a walking ad for solutions like Crashplan. I think I pay a little over $60 a year for (up to) 10 workstations to be backed up to the cloud with unlimited space. I think I'm utilizing about 4TB right now amongst my workstations.

It would take a long time to download your lost items from the cloud but I guess that's better than losing the stuff forever.

I hate to see this happen to anyone. It's too bad.

If he's been shooting for 35 years, much of his stuff is on film someplace, unless he ditched the negatives - or was shooting with a digital camera from the future.

I was thinking the same thing. But, there is no mention of negatives in the story. I get the feeling he digitized everything, but did not take the proper steps to protect his work. He has certainly learnt the hard way.

I love me some CrashPlan! I was able to restore some raw files from my desktop to my laptop while on the road to get access to them. Nice side benefit to having everything backed up in the cloud.
