Photo Shooting Tent

Many years ago there was a discussion of a tabletop type of shooting tent or light box for use in product photography. Unfortunately I cannot find the thread and am having trouble finding something decent but not overly expensive.

Neewer has a couple - one is 24"x24" while the other is 32"x32". Both are translucent and would allow diffused light when strobes/flashes are used. I don't want one that comes with its own lights built in. I'd rather have full control of where and how I place the lights. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions?

Size depends on what you intend to photograph inside. I mainly use mine for photographing wristwatches in my collection.

Speaking from my own experience, I now use the black semi-rigid type cube with the silver reflective interior and LED lights. My own studio allows you to adjust the position of the LED strips and each of the 2 strips has it's own switch. There is a white diffusing fabric panel for the lights. It is 16"x16"x16", basically ideal for watches with a 90mm macro lens.

I came to this place first building my own diffusing structures out of translucent plastic tubs. Then I bought a 24" sized white tent like you show. Realized that was far too large and downsized to a 14" white tent. Lighting was difficult to get right. I used 2 reflector work lights with "natural light" color CFL bulbs. I moved the lights close, far, and all around over the years. The new type with the lights inside is the way to go for watches. I am convinced of that.

Is the one you have linked more than you want to spend?
You could make one, but by the time you buy all the stuff, I think it wouldn't be all that cheap.

No, the one I linked isn't expensive, but some of the ones I looked at are more than twice the price and come with their own lights installed (definitely not what I want). I know I want one that is translucent so I can light from outside the tent. And as BF Hammer mentioned, size is a factor. I just don't know what size might be good to start with. But probably something small will work - jewelry and items maybe no larger than 10" for starters.

After looking at a variety of translucent shooting tents, I decided to order a Neewer 16"x16" shoot through tent. It should be big enough to photograph jewelry and other small items. Thanks for the input. I hadn't considered anything smaller than a 24"x24" but feel this slightly smaller size will work better.

Glad you found what you needed.
I had seen a small light box a few years ago that was good for small items. It came with a small led strip that you could attach. I don't think it was expensive. I couldn't locate the link since it was a few years ago.
