Bear in mind I haven't been around here long which gives me a limited view of how things work, but also perhaps a fresh perspective. I'm one of those folks who reads the instructions when all else fails, so catching the stickies or those little notes in Bold Red Type is not one of my strong points. So, I responded to a post in the Photo Critique Forum without the proper diligence requested by the NEW Photo Critique Forum Rules *READ BEFORE POSTING* notice. Then I noticed the notice and also noted that few if any folks follow the guidelines in the average critique response. My feedback is the Photo Critique Forum does not seem to function as intended. Use of the 12 Elements to offer a grade of X/12 does not really work with the submission guidelines which include noting the "Artistic intent/summary of the photo" or "What specifically do you want feedback on?" Also, doing the Total Score: X/12 makes each element a yes/no which works for a competition but does not work very well for a single photo grade that's intent is to enhance personal growth. The star rating using the 12 Elements makes a bit more sense for a single image, maybe. I think an image submitted for a 12 element critique is asking, "Is this photo a winner?" The aim of the Photo Critique Forum seems to be getting more targeted feedback than the general Feedback Forum, but not really a 12 Element Critique. My suggestion would be to drop the Total Score: X/12 grade from the Photo Critique Forum and add a new Forum called "12 Element Critique" as a forum to post images that the maker feels has the merits to be a winner. The responses in this forum should be limited to addressing one or more of the 12 elements specifically. Just a few thoughts and may be out beyond the left field fence, perhaps somewhere in the next county.
