It get picked up next Sat, wont get it till about 8-9pm Sun night!!! Oh the loooong wait now!!! :D

Don't forget to add in the time to fully charge the battery before first use.
It flashes slowly to taunt you, just like a ticking clock.
But it's well worth the wait.

Download the user manual in Tracsofts sig line to have a peek at what it can do.
1st of the three links in his sig will take you straight there.

I'm going to suggest you get a copy of either the D5100 Field Guide (about $10) or D5100: From Snapshots to Great Shots (about $14); both links take you to Amazon.

Buy one, buy the other, buy both. Either is light years ahead of either of the Nikon manuals. Not that you shouldn't familiarize yourself with the Nikon manuals. But, that being said, save yourself some frustration and confusion and get one of these books. Either one will be the best couple bucks you can spend if you're new to using a DSLR camera. The D5100 is a real "wolf in sheeps clothing" in terms of performance if you learn to really leverage what it has to offer.

Until I purchased my D5100 last year, I mostly ignored digital photography (except for a Fujifilm P&S that I had). Despite almost 30 years of shooting with SLR's and a pretty solid photography foundation, I was overwhelmed by the camera and I looked at a lot of dedicated D5100 books to help me over the hump. The one that helped me the most was Nikon D5100 for Dummies by Julie Adair King -- the author literally handholds you through the process of how to turn the camera on through its most advanced functions. I highly recommend it if you're new to DSLR cameras.

Well, congrats on the camera. After you get it you can order a couple lenses, tripod, flash, filters.............well, you'll see...it just doesn't stop at the "camera". Lol

Have fun with it.

I love my D5100. I'm sure you will love yours as well. A tip for you - if you use live view a lot, consider getting a spare battery.

Good advice on the spare battery -- I think it's a must-purchase. Cold temperatures also sap batteries and you don't want to get caught without a fresh battery if you drain yours.

I just got my 5100 last week at Costco and am enjoying learning all that it can do. I have been in the world of P&S way too long and wanted to get deeper in the hobby. Well I feel deep now, but in time I am sure we will figure it all out. That is the fun of it. It's just very time consuming, so be patient. I also just got my extra battery in the mail last night. It is a must for any camera.
