Then again, I didn't realize I had a camera problem until just recently: D5100, 2 x D7100, D600, D750, Df. Hello, my name is George and I'm a cameraholic.
Only thing that might make the 300 a better option is the frame rate.Looking back at all of this, and the cost of shutter plus camera, it sure makes a whole lot more sense on the D7100 options.
Clean D300s available locally, 160K shutter count, Under $250.
I'm interested in a second DX body to compliment my D7100. Remote camera for shooting hockey/soccer near the nets.
Do it?
Yep, D500 is on the radar in a bit for sure. I thought the 300s was better indoors. My miss.Joe,
I have the D300, awesome camera for sports in bright light......perfect.
I wouldn't even consider shooting NCAA hoops with it due to poor ISO performance IMHO above ISO 800....in other words even with my super fast glass I'll miss action shots....
Save up for the D500 would be my take or wait till they hit the KEH etc market.
D300S would be nice for outdoor soccer for sure.....with MB D10 attached it can crank. For hockey you will be disappointed I think.
It's only a $250 gamble tho so tough call.
The D500 is what you want but nobody is giving them away.....

Thanks!
No reason to panic, you kill it with what you got now.......
You've built a nice collection of fast dx glass why not be patient and get the camera that is worthy?
D300s is awesome but indoors where you need a quick shutter? = MEH
