Allthough when I first tried it I was sitting in my office and tried to get it to work. I then realized the the camera was trying to focus but couldn't because of what I was aiming it at. I also use it on my D3s. Although I use a differant cord for that body. Some people have their cameras set up to take a shot if the shutter button is fully depressed weather autofocus has acheived focus or not. I'm not 100% sure but I do believe the remote will not work unless the camera can lock on a subject when trying to focus. And to answer you're last statement. I would trade for the 7000. Primarily because the 3100 does not have an internal focus motor like the 7000. I like the feature simply because you have a wider market on lenses that will auto focus.</p></blockquote><p></p>
