opinion please, with or without

Hi, I took this shot the other day and I kind of like the bud at the top for its strong color and the water drops but I think the overall composition is better without it. What do you think, leave it or crop it and why? Also it's probably to close to the edge to leave it in. All comments welcomed wether about the cropping or any other critique. Thank You.

The cropped version looks much better....more centralized. The eye is focused on the main subject, rather than being distracted by the top element. Nice job. :)

I think you might have a nice composition if you cropped image #1 from the bottom up so that the open flower and the bud become the center of attention.

Thank You for all the replies. Looks like most are infavor of cropping it out and thats the way I will leave it. I also think the suggestion to try cropping from the bottom up is good but I don't think I really have enough space to work with above the bud. Probably would look cut off or off balance if you know what I mean Dave. Thanks again for all the comments. I appreciate everyones opinion.

Clearly I am in the minority and do understand the logic behind cropping, butI really prefer the non-cropped version. I like how the big drop of water on the bud above creates tension in the picture as I wonder if it is not going to drop on the open flower any second. While the cropped version is a very nice picture, its composition is similar to many other photos of flower containing water droplets. The un-cropped version is unique. They are both excellent, however.

Oh, I understand your thought process. As I said in my original post I also thought that bud looked cool and was wondering what others thought about leaving it or cropping it, so I totally hear what your saying. Thanks again to all who commented.

Actually, BOTH images are fantastic depending on the display method. The cropped image for a matted display and the uncropped for a clear glass floating display.

In this case, both of the Twix cookies are right!

I always try to get my hostas with water droplets also.

Hello Mark,

Its a decision: what do you want to communicate?

If you want to show flowers, crop the top.
IMO, even tighter then you did: crop more from both top and left.

If you want to show a flower development, crop the bottom leaving
more room over the bud. I think I would prefer this option if there was
not the too large gap between the bud and the flower.

The empty space may be easily fixed with a pixel editor and the final rendition
is, I think, well worth the extra work. What do you say?

Yea, I think a little work in photoshop and I could probably come away with something like you describe. Thanks for the idea! If I get something good I'll post it in the next couple of days, just gotta find some time on work on it.

Sorry, Mark, if my suggestion kept you awake…

I think this rendition is pretty solid, the composition is stronger and it says what
you wanted to express.

You got a keeper right there!

Have a good day…
