One light portraits - first time out

I have a one light setup, stand and shoot through umbrella / softbox.
Using a D40 with SB-700 triggered on the stand.

I need to work on my post process editing a bit (Lightroom 4.3)

Try using a reflector opposite the umbrella light to take away the harsh shadows from the face. Here's a good place to get a really good, inexpensive 5-in-1 reflectors: Blazzeo 43" Inch 110cm 5-in-1 Light Multi Collapsible Reflector for Photography

I am with Jack on this one... I got some acceptable shots using a white 24x36 poster board as a reflector (until I bought my real one)

Agreed on the reflector. Added one and a 2nd stand setup to my cart this morning.
