If you are going to go on a long trip where you may not have access to a laptop/internet every day, i would buy a bunch of smaller cards. Whether you shoot jpeg or raw, calculate how much you can fit on a 4/8 gb card. Buy maybe 3-4 cards. Use a fresh one each day and when you get in front of that computer with internet, dump the photos to the cloud. Therefore, if your card on day 3 gets messed up, guess what? You still have the photos from day 1 and 2. Just a suggestion.
I have always wondered why people seem to put all their eggs in one basket at times. Why would you use a 64gb SD card for your D5100? Unless you are shooting video, i see no point i using something so big. 1 card + 1 failure = no photos at all. A camera with dual slots would be even better.... maybe time for an upgrade ;)
