Finally got out with a camera for the first time this year. Was talking to the neighbor, and they had jays and cardinals and all sorts of winged critters at their feeders.

So after I got my chores done this morning, I went a huntin'......... and all the birds were gone.

So I picked another target.... a squirrel we've named Herman. I really just wanted to get out with my 70-200 and 1.7 TC.

Dang that is a pretty squirrel! All I ever see are the plain grey squirrels and occasionally an albino or even more rare a Fox squirrel.

Curious about the lens and TC combo, what kind of distance and cropping are you doing with this. The picture quality looks good.

What beautiful markings on that squirrel! Like Mike d90 said, we too have the grey squirrels although someone locally mentioned seeing a black squirrel once. I know Princeton University (where we had the Scott Kelby Photo Walk) has black squirrels although I didn't see any of them in September.

I really like these photos! ;)

We have a lot of grey squirrels around here. Also, more and more red squirrels seem to be around than ever before. Once in a while, I have seen a black squirrel around here. Most of the black squirrels I have seen have been on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River. Black fur color in grey squirrels is a recessive trait, that is why you don't see them very often.

That's really interesting to know! :) Next to Princeton University is Princeton Theological Seminary, and my pastor who went there said the University had loads of black squirrels back in the 70's. I've seen a few there within the past decade, but perhaps the lessening numbers of them are from the recessive trait you mentioned. Thanks for the info! :D
