I had a very similar problem in that no matter what, when I first turned on the camera (whether it be for first click, or a lens change), I would lock focus, depress the shutter, and it would lock up with an ERR on the LCD screen. If I pushed the the shutter button again, the mirror would drop, and I could go on happily until I turned the camera off for whatever reason. This started happening *after* I sent the camera back to Nikon for the second shutter recall. The replaced it, and thats when I started having the problem. I sort of lived with it until recently when I lost some shots of a band because of the problem. At first, because it was past the 6-month repair warranty, they were going to charge me $300 to fix it but I complained loudly enough that they fixed it for free. I just got it back - the replaced the shutter (again), the rubber grip, cleaned and tested it. I tested it when it arrived and it's working great. I would try above but if it continues I would contact Nikon.
