Non Nikkor lenses

Hello folks shooting a D3100 with kit 18-55f3.5-5.6

I am still new to photography but ready to move up my game in lenses. Been doing alot of research and i get i need 1 good telephoto and one good prime.

For Tele i am thinking 18-200/300 depending on what i can find on a good deal
and a 50MM Fx still deciding and ofcourse depending on price.

What i wanted to ask is:

1. can someone help me clarify if there are any other brand of lens that would work on a Nikon camera specifically the D3100?
2. i was heart broken when i realized i bought a camera that didint have the AF motor built in so i am limited to AF-S lenses. In your opinion is this somethign worth actually selling the d3100 over and moving to another body that has it built in? If so could one recomend a Nikkon body thats good for an entry level but allows me to take advantage of non AF-S lenses?

I would strongly advise you to avoid non-Nikon lenses, especially before you understand the differences between good and bad lenses. There are some good non-Nikon lenses but there are also so very poor non-Nikon lenses. And even after you become experienced at photography you may find that Nikon lenses are the only lenses worth buying. In a nutshell, you can't really go wrong with a Nikon lens but you can go wrong buying non-Nikon lenses, depending upon which one you choose.

The D90 has the AF motor + the D7000...Having the inbuilt AF motor allows you to buy a lens like the 80-200mm AF IF ED F2.8 which is about $1200 cheaper the the &0-200mm F2.8..

Sigma make lens that will AF on your D3100 it has HSM on them...
