No Video playback

Have D90 for a couple of years and am extremely pleased with it. In the past I have shot video and played back on PC or TV with no trouble. Recently shot video and it will not play back on TV or PC, says incorrect file format. It plays on my son's Apple Air fine

Any suggestions

Thanks

Many TVs have USB to show JPG files, but will not play video files. They require some other device to feed them more regular HDMI or TV format.

That device is often a DVD player, it outputs TV formats. Put the file on a CD or DVD disk for it. (but it will not be HDTV unless it is a high def disk and player). However many of them will not play AVI files (The D90 video files are AVI), but instead need it to be converted to MP3 format first.

Check your DVD player manual (and your TV manual) for the specs of what type file it can play.

It is only recently that it has stopped playing video shot on the D90, previously there was no problem. Both TV & PC will play AVI files from other sources

My 55" Sony only plays video from TV and HDMI inputs, and JPG files, but no video files at all.
My 32" Samsung plays mp3, but not avi files.
Both are about four years old.

Probably should ask what "won't play" means? What does happen? Absolutely nothing, or something?

Does the TV still play same old AVI files it previously played before? If so, that would point at the camera now.

Dunno, but if the avi files previously did play where current ones won't play now, then make sure the camera is still set to create the correct NTSC or PAL format. It must be NTSC for American TVs.

TV & PC play old AVI files and new ones created outside of Nikon. Video mode on D90 set correctly. Just to reiterate, up to a few weeks ago there was no problem viewing video from D90. When trying to view just get message to say invalid format.

After taking video I use Nikon Transfer and then ViewNX

Thanks

You may want to... If you have not tried already a new SD card. I was unable to play/retrieve photos on my PC when my card went bad. However, I was still able to view photos on the camera. You may be seeing the same thing with roles reversed. Try that out and see if it helps.
If you have not either, maybe just for giggles, update to the latest firmware.
