I have access to a nikon sb28 flash for $50. Are the nikon sb28 flash comparable with both the D5200 and D3200? Is the flash worth the money?

I'm trying to make sure my hard earned money goes to the right equipment.

That flash will work, but you won't get any TTL flash. You'll have to use it in M, which might get a bit frustrating for an on camera flash. They're are plenty of fairly cheap options out there that are much newer and will utilize TTL and other functions.

Save your money and get a flash that is designed for the modern DSLRs There are some non-Nikon flashes that several members here use that swear by them. I like the SB-700 but it might be a little pricey for you since you are looking at a $50 flash.
