Nikon lens interchangability

Sorry Lisa, that adapter is the most likely cause of your woes. What you really want is the Nikon built part. Either the FTZ or the FTZ-II.

I did a fast search at Kamerastore (a major used camera gear site in Finland I believe) and turned up the original FTZ.

Or you could get a used FTZ-II easily from KEH or MPB in the USA. But yeah, significantly more money. I bought mine with my Z5 body and it has been essential for me.

EDIT: I just looked up that Urth adapter. It does not have the electrical contacts for lens autofocus or aperture adjustment. Your photos are turning out exactly as I would expect with no autofocus or aperture control being used. Ditch the Urth and buy a Nikon adapter. It will work. At least it was the least expensive thing that caused your grief.

Thank you so much! Finally we got the issue figured out. Glad it’s not the lenses. I will check out those websites for the correct adapter.

Update: I got the FTZ II and the lenses are working. I’m quite amused I had no idea the other adapter had no electrical contacts 😄. I can now hear the inner working of the lenses as soon as they’re attached.
I’m so glad I found this forum and got the help I needed to figure it out.

Ok, so I tried the Nikon AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8 G ED on the Z7 and have the same issue, no f-stop showing on the viewfinder and blurry photos, even though they look sharp and focused through the viewfinder before I press the shutter.
So both lenses surely can’t be faulty and neither of the camera bodies are.
How do I update lens firmware?

I also noticed the lens adaper I have is F(G type) to Z. Could it be the wrong adapter and could that be the issue? 😩
I still have so much to learn!. I bought second hand lenses to save some money but I wish now that I hadn’t. Pictured is the adapter I’m using.
It’s possible that the adapter is the issue. Not all adapters work well with G-type lenses, especially if it’s not an original FTZ. Check the contacts, settings in the camera, and try borrowing an original adapter. The lens firmware update is only possible through a DSLR, not the Z7.
