Hi has any one used a Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens on a D70 or any other camera only I have just read a few reviews that say for the money its not bad.
If you need a 100 dollar doorstop or a bookend go ahead and get it. If you're going to use it to take pictures, get something else like the Nikon 70-300mm VR version.
Well that's honest lol but it all boils down to money and patience as I haven't the money for a real good one and I haven't got the patience to wait so its a catch 22 situation, but advise taken, best wishes Brian.
From what i have seen about it it may stand well on your D70 but you could find your not happy with it on a higher MP camera,i think the Tamron is better the one with built in stabilizing
Tamron 70-300mm is a much better buy but over twice as dear as the Nikon AF 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 G Black Zoom Nikkor Lens which said it all thanks again Brian.
I thought you may be in the same situation as loads of us thats why i put forward the Tamron
Have you looked at Nikons 55-300mm? I hear good things about it, not far off the VR 70-300 and VC 70-300 Tamron and from reviews I've read I assume it is better than the 70-300G.It is a DX lens but unless you plan on buying a FX body in the future that won't be an issue.
A thread with some 55-300 images in,i forgot all about this lens.

The Amiga 1200 was the best computer ever built(at the time),used one for linear editing and overlaying graphics on my wild life vids but that was a long time ago, remember i only said could be ok on a 6mp D70.
oops forgot to ask mikew How well did your Amiga perform all them years ago, did it do well, was it quick enough for photo work and which model did you use and don't tell me it was the Amiga 500 lol even though I hope it was, sorry about all the questions but I get quiet excited about the Amiga, best wishes Brian.
Without going into the attic i think its a 1200A but not sure,it was before digital photography was with the masses and the time of Hi8 video so it wasn't used for the actual editing,i did gen locking mainly with it,adding titles speech boxes and scene wipes, its that long ago i wouldn't know how to do it now.
I would advise not going with the non-VR 70-300 Nikkor. It's not a good lens, and ultimately I suspect you would be disappointed. Maybe a used VR version of either the Nikkor or Tamron would be available in your price range? These two are MUCH sharper.
