Nikon AF 35-105 f3.5/4.5

Just called in at my local Nikon dealer looking for something cheap for a walk around lens on the D70,i find the kit 18-55 i got with the D5100 not long enough,from what i can find out doing some research this is older than the D version,i have no idea of the price as the shop owner is away for a few days but one of the staff has let me take it for the weekend to try.
Any one still use one and your opinions would be appreciated.

A verdict for any one viewing this, on the D70 105mm is good 35mm over exposes and macro under exposes,dont know if its this lens in general,my sample or the D70 but its going back.
