it will not autofocus on the d3200. I had one but sold it recently. This is in my opinion a classic case where Mr Rock... has made such a positive review of a lens and now everyone wants one.

The reason I sold mine was the following:
- its heavy
- its a sliding zoom. When zooming air will be sucked in and out of the body increasing the chances of dust ingress.
- it has no vibration reduction/optical stabi/vibe control, not so much an issue at the short end but can certainly be missed at the longer focal range, especially in low light conditions.

That being said, the lens is really very sharp and focused amazingly fast on my D7000.

Here in europe you are looking at an average of about 120 euros for this lens in good condition, IMHO better off buying the nikkor 55-200 which will autofocus on your camera and has vibration reduction........... is currently to be had for 110 euros!

hm those are valid points to let it go. and i recently purchased a d2hs and that has a built in focus motor on it and was thinking on using this lens on that if i were to get it

I considered it but wanted a little more reach. What did you intend to use it for?

I have one and I don't use it very often. The great thing about it is that it's way smaller than the 70-200 2.8. And less heavy too. The push-pull doesn't bother me that much, but I do have much better lenses that I can use. But for a person that is just coming into FX and who has limited funds, it can certainly work for a while until the 70-200 comes around the X-mas tree one year. :)

It will certainly work well outdoors with good light. The only drawback will be its reach. Price should be right. I have seen them for around $100 USD on eBay.

Here is a quick snapshot I just did with it. Hand held 1/40s, @190mm, iso 4000. This is an original old Westclox electrical alarm clock. Hum... I wonder how much I could get out of it on the Bay... :) Reduced to 72 ppi for the web.

Push-pull or "slider" zoom (focusing and zooming with the same ring) is IDEAL for handheld manual shootings. Go for it...

I agree with you. Plus, the weight helps to stabilize the camera when you use slower shutter speed.
