Hi guys I have a d5100 and kit lens 18-55 and I'm looking for a telephoto for family outings to the zoo and some basic wildlife shooting, I know the nikon is vr and sigma isn't but what's your thoughts should i buy the nikon or sigma both are about £100

Many thanks

If those were the only choices, it would be the Nikon for the VR. If you can, save a bit more for the Tamron 70-300 VC version. It is a bit more but worth it.

I just bought a Sigma 70-300 for my d3200 at b&h. They have a rebate instantly saves you 160.00. It has image stabilization.

I had the Nikon 55-200mm VR lens and it just didn't have enough reach for what wildlife photography I like to do. Get the longest sharpest lens your budget can afford and save even longer if your budget means buying a really inferior lens of any kind. Saving even $200 on a lens just doesn't heal the dissatisfaction of shotty images and too short a reach.
