Nikon 24-70mm 2.8

I am interested in getting the 24-70 2.8...but I am concerned that is does not have VR; and with my shaky hands that could be an issue. For those of you that have this lens, do you see the lack of VR to be a problem? Also, it would be nice if there was an F4 version of this lens...hopefully at less cost. I ran across a blurb that indicated Nikon might be considering such a lens...has anyone else heard of this?

Thanks...

You'd know better than me. That focal range is sort of on the border of where VR really starts to come into play. If you do a lot of low light work then the absence of VR will be noticeable, particularly if your hands are naturally unsteady, so you'll need to boost ISO to compensate and get your shutter speeds up. It may be a great lens, but there's something to be said about the right tool for the job, and the world's best hammer still isn't going to work when a wrench is needed.

I've heard good reports from the Tamron 24-70 2.8 that has VR. Apparently it's quite sharp.

When Sigma announced their 24-70mm VR lens they made a mention of Nikkor coming out with one soon and they wanted to get this one out ahead of Nikkor. Strangely though, I've not heard any rumblings about a VR lens coming from Nikon's side of the fence. Frankly, with the 24-70mm being a behemoth as it is, I'm wondering if you throw a VR on that and you'll end up with a gihugic and unyielding lens that Nikon has reservations about.

You want the 24-120f4. Covers the same range, and gets great reviews. I have one and it works well. It is cheaper as well.

Just got mine and first test shots are fantastic. Also, coincidently DXo just released their test report on it and it scored one point higher than the Nikon 24-70.
