Nikon 18-300mm VS Tamron 16-300mm

I'm looking for a new lens for my Nikon D7100 camera, I currently have a basic 70-300 Nikon lens, which has gotten me good shots in the past, but I want to upgrade. So, I come to you for advice on deciding which lens is better. I mainly get my camera out when I travel, or attending a sci-fi convention, which can be anywhere from good to not so good lighting, considering the conventions are indoors.

Anyway, here are the lenses:

The Tamron is so new I don't know anyone who owns one yet. This version of the 18-300mm Nikon is also very new, but one or two people on this forum have one, so I'd look up those threads.

I saw a picture taken with the tamron 16-300mm at probably 16mm, total distortion, buildings looking like they were falling down. I'm sure that it can be corrected with software but it's nice to have the nikon 18-300mm and just let the camera automatically take care of what ever distortion there may be with the lens. I have the new 18-300mm and shoot jpeg with lens distortion control on and haven't noticed any distortion. I'm not even sure my camera body's firmware recognizes the lens since it's so new.
