I tested myNikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX.

The 16-85 is one of the lenses I am considering as a replacement for my kit 18-55mm at some point in the future. What do you think about the lens so far?

I think it's one of the best Dx lenses made. It's extremely sharp and 16mm on the wide end is great to have. It's only drawback to me was bokeh, I think the trade-off is more DoF which is great for landscape.

I totally agree with Rick M. I am happy that I replaced the 18-55 ( is a great Kit Lens too )

Last Saturday I did some test shooting more. All pictures out of camera. Didn't use any correction programs or camera in correction. I like the 16-85 and its performance.

I sold my 18-200 & replaced it with a 16-85 VR. I love this lens, stays on my D7000 most of the time.

you should change your 18-55 it is not a very good glass... but the 16-85 is a great lens, it is spectacular, almost a wide angle (good for landscapes), you can shoot good macros, very sharp!

So is there a real noticeable sharpness difference with the 16-85 over the 18-55? I thought the 18-55 was a reasonably sharp lens on its own. It would be interesting to see a side-by-side comparison of the same views with the two different lenses. Now I'm curious to try one on my D7000.

I think that the 18-55 is a great lens. I mounted it on the D80 now. These photos taken with 18-55 on my D5100 and jpg - ooc. Just used LR to resize them.







I bought the 16-85 cos of its zoom range and I wanted the 2 mm more and it makes a huge difference. Is it worth to pay much more for this lens? To me yes cos a am a crazy man

it is worth to chande an 18-55 to 16-85 it is much woth it, it has a big difference, the 2mm less and the 35 more and the sharpness
