I did have the 55-200 and the 55-300 has a much more substantial feel to it. I don't think you would go wrong with either lens. The main benefit I see with the 70-300 is the FX capability. If that is a possibility, there really is no choice. For me, staying with DX, I liked the ability to go to 55mm on the low end. It made the lens much more versatile for me eliminating lens changing or getting caught with the wrong lens. As for IQ, I have been very pleased.Having said all that, Curt you are getting a great lens!</blockquote>
