Nikkor 50mm 1.8 lens - is there a wide angle attachment?

I have the af-s nikkor 50mm 1.8g lens (which I love!) But sometimes feel I need a wider angle, and I hate the default lens but I do know there is a wide angle attachment for it, it doesn't fit the 50mm. Is there an adapter for the 50mm? I have not been able to locate one. :/ thank you!

Welcome

The default lens is so much better then trying to turn your 50m into something it's not with some 2 bob fix

If you don't like the 18-55 or whatever it is save your money and buy a better lens...you'll save money in the long run..

I assume that your camera needs G lens, so,, either accept lower quality with say a Zoom, or,,,, save for the wide angle. Its a long process. I try to add a couple of lens a year, and well, over 35 years, you build your lens up. Not a race, but a process.

Crop factor rears it's ugly head!

I don't think you can say that crop factor rears its ugly head because the wrong lens is being used. That's like saying full frame rears its ugly head because your 300mm is no longer as useful for wildlife. I bought the 35mm 1.8 rather than the 50mm for this very reason. It's not even a very expensive lens. Better to put the adaptor money towards one of these.

I said it and I'll say it again because he bought a 50 instead of a 35 and he has a DX camera FX doesn't even matter in this case. But with that being said don't get mad because we really are on the same side sir. haha :)

Crop factor rears it's ugly head! (An aside - "So go FX instead")

The greatest weakness of the crop factor DSLRs is the wide angle focal length. Even with a 35 you are shooting the distance like you would with a normal lens on full frame. It becomes a great advantage when you go long.

Sorry but I think I've missed the point. All I'm saying is the DX/FX factor is not the issue, it's simply a case of the right lens for the requirements. Somebody could have started the same discussion about their 85mm not being wide enough on a new D600.

You can get this, a 52MM 2.0x Telephoto and 0.45X Wide Angle High Definition Lenses for NIKON DSLRor save up and get a great wide angle lens in the future.

My advice, save up for the future and don't waste your money on the 2.0 Telephoto and .45 W/A HD lenses they suck. How do I know.... my wife bought me these for my birthday and they were so bad I gave them away when I sold my D3100 a couple of weeks ago. If you want to waste money here's the site for those items.

Thanks! (And thanks to all the others too!) I guess I'll just save up. I was just thinking it would be easier with the attachment but if it messes with quality I don't want it. I'm still very new so lots to learn!

I have the 50mm too and sometimes I wish I had a wider lens too.
But then, if you can, try and step back a bit, or reframe the subject to make it a less traditional fit (for example, no need to get the whole head in, maybe cut out some of the hair in the frame).

The 35mm is about the same price as the 50mm and if you can, save up for it.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but as the 35mm is a DX lens, it won't suffer from the crop factor, so will remain a 35mm, wheras the FX 50mm is equivalent to 75mm on a DX body like the D5100?

I believe that the 35mm DX lens is actually a 52.5mm lens when on A DX camera body. And is only a 35mm lens when installed on an FX body.

I don't know. All I know is I rarely use the 35mm kit lens because the quality isn't as good as the 50mm. The pictures come out a million times better with the 50mm lens, but sometimes in order to get the whole shot I want I have to run practically all over the room. Especially in a wedding, if I want the get the whole dress I have to get so far. Idk. I was thinking the wide angle attachment would be a quick fix lol. I'm a long way away from affording another lens but if I have to wait I will!

I thought a DX lens on an FX body gave you a cropped image (as it can't fill the whole FX sensor), but was still a 35mm lens on both bodies (as you stated above).

But a DX lens (eg 18-55mm DX) on a DX body (eg D5100) would still be a 18-55mm not a 27-82.5mm

Anyone know for sure?
