NIKKOR 300mm 1:4.?

Hi all I have a D5100 and know this lens will be full manual on my camera ! However if I can get it for under $50 AU is it worth it is it a good lens to have ? Appreciate your comments .

If the lens has AF-S, it will AF with your camera. If not, it will be manual focus only like what you've mentioned. If you do get a D7000 or D7100 in the future, it might be able to AF with that lens. Most prime lenses are pretty sharp. You just need to know their limitations and when it is best to use it.

If it is the Nikkor 300mm f4.5 ai lens, then it shouldn't cost that much. I still have mine and have rarely used it just like my other Nikon 300mm f4 AFS lens. I guess I need to dispose it soon since it is just sitting in one of my bags. I usually use them to take photos of the moon and sometimes in rare occasion, the solar eclipse.
