Re: nidding's first year of shooting Day 30 Today my sweet wife was patient enough to sit through my very first attempt at a portrait. I used an on-camera flash and wanted to try out some techniques. It didn't quite work, so I ended up with some rather plain light. Also I had a lot of trouble getting my camera to autofocus and when I turned on AF assist, it only worked like one out of ten. What am I doing wrong? Anyway, if any of you guys have some comments on what I should do differently I would be very happy to hear them :) (I know I said I would commit to the 35mm for a month, but as the AF didn't really work and the 35 isn't that much of a portrait lens, I changed to my manual focus 135 instead, rather than my kit lenses. It was a bit on the long side, but it goes to f/2.8, which I think I needed to get the poor background as much out of focus as possible)
