New user, very confused about zoom

You spent 800 Pounds on a magnesium-body camera, with a great sensor with awesome high-ISO capability, an internal focus motor, a handy top mounted LCD, great external controls, a built in flash with commander mode, and it'll do 6 frames per second. Plus a pretty versatile lens. My 18-105 is the one that's usually on my camera.</p></blockquote><p></p>
